Yes. Smart meter installation is completely free for all Utility Warehouse energy customers. There are no engineer call-out fees or equipment charges.

How long does a UW smart meter installation take?

Accepted Answer

The engineer visit takes approximately 30–45 minutes. The appointment is typically booked within 2–4 weeks of your request. There is a brief electricity interruption of around 20 minutes and a standard gas tightness safety test during the visit.

What is a SMETS2 smart meter?

Accepted Answer

SMETS2 is the second-generation UK smart meter standard. Unlike SMETS1 meters, a SMETS2 meter remains 'smart' if you switch energy supplier — it communicates over the national DCC network, so your readings are still sent automatically regardless of who supplies your energy.

My old smart meter went dumb when I switched — will UW fix it?

Accepted Answer

Utility Warehouse can enrol SMETS2 meters via the DCC, restoring smart functionality. SMETS1 meters may need replacing with a new SMETS2 device — UW can advise you based on your meter serial number.
